there it is. there's the shabby, underlit, tackily decorated, poorly recorded, dingy-looking girlfriends films style i know so well.

twisted passions #26 was released on dvd in november 2018. it's their "hotel fantasies" line, which just means there's about five minutes of very awkward interaction between desk clerk scarlett sage and guests aali and bunny before they confess that they're getting a room so they can explore their newfound feelings for each other in privacy. cut to scarlett toasting their lesbian relationship with champagne in their lingerie. it's the dumbest, most awkward, hideously outdated and blatantly male-fantasy script i've seen from girlfriends all month, and that's saying something.

at least once scarlett leaves them to it the awkwardness mostly dissipates, although i never buy bunny and aali as anything but friendly acquaintances having sex because they're being paid to. which isn't to say they don't enjoy it (it's sex, and they're professionals), but that there's very little passion involved. it's a pretty soporific vehicle all through; fans of "realistic, non-porny" sex will have a lot to love, but someone like me who prefers the heightened reality of cinematic fantasy will be unsatisfied; this feels especially drab right on the heels of demi and ember for sweetheart.

the filmmaking is as ugly and lifeless as ever, the sets are weird timesinks that look exactly like all the boring and miserable aspects of the 1980s that nobody remembers fondly, and there's no style or visual gracefulness anywhere to be found. and the sound is really bad; any sounds above normal speaking tones (like, say, vocal enjoyment of an orgasm) blows out the mics.

after getting used to b. skow's aggressively mediocre style for girlfriends, going back to dan o'connell's original recipe is even worse. i am so baffled as to who loves this stuff so much that there's a market for so much of it to be produced.
