it's possible i'm just too jaded and grumpy to appreciate anything anymore, or maybe we've hit a singularly uninspired stretch of the month's releases. either way, this is the least engaging mommy's girl scene so far this month, and mommy's girl is for my money consistently the least engaging girlsway brand.
some of that is due to the performances. anya olsen, who i don't recall ever having encountered before, is certainly having fun with her role, sliding from being shocked over finding out that her stepmother watches stepmom-stepdaughter porn to teasing her into sexual contact with campy glee; but once dava relents they have nowhere else to push the characters and just fall back on what the girlsway superfans call "mommy talk" ad nauseam. at least at the beginning it's being delivered with a wink; anya, though she claims in dialogue to be eighteen, looks every inch her twenty-five years, and they stress that the step relationship is recent. but as the scene drags on, position after tedious position, both of them calling dava "mommy" gets real old.
that's all some fetishists want, of course; and lucky them they get it in spades here. but i couldn't help being slightly nauseated by it, for all that anya is clearly of age. my mind kept wandering to what a horrible, abusive, traumatic experience incest is in the real world, and i don't know that a handful of perverts getting their paid-for jollies is really worth the normalization of this shit. but my mind was probably drifting because i'm not very familiar with either of the women involved; hypocritically, i'm much less likely to have qualms about mommy's girl scenes with performers i know well.
the technical aspects were fine, as expected: craven moorehead is sticking to the girlsway formula with a slightly better polish on the image. the editing was a little worse than usual, if only because anya olsen's name was misspelled in the credits, and the wistful stock music was a very odd choice for such a goofy scene. if the scene had either leaned into the goofiness more, or actually attempted any of the emotional resonance that the music suggests, it might have been memorable; as it is, it's landfill porn, just more content for the insatiable keyword searchers.
