it's ridiculous to paint all of european porn production with as broad a brush as i frequently do, but to be fair to me i'm only looking at girl/girl productions, which do tend to be fairly samey despite a certain amount of envelope-pushing from a number of different directions.
one direction that will never push the envelope is viv thomas. even their best director, sandra shine, is content to select and light a location to maximize its sensuous beauty, dress two beautiful women beautifully, and shoot them undressing one another and having patient, uninflected sex with the most beautiful photography. this is old-school glamour porn in modern dress, and there's nothing wrong with it: it's just that, compared to the narrative drive and vivid personalities of so much american porn, it feels a little light in calories. insubstantial. forgettable.
there is a very basic attempt to set a scene: newer ukrainian model helena moeller (she's based in germany) plays something like a kept woman, to whom veteran hungarian performer blue angel comes home in business attire. they converse desultorily in thickly-accented english, against which the spanish-guitar soundtrack fights, and soon enough are kissing, and then move gently into sex. there are very few surprises here, except for one: blue stops helena just as she's about to send her over the edge, insisting that helena should be the one to come first. it's the kind of taking charge of a scene that only a veteran performer can get away with, and it fits in with the very loosely-established scenario. it's not much, but in a european girl/girl scene it's a lot.
the photography is, as noted, beautiful; the models are lit and shot as though they will appear in a glamour magazine, just as the set is lit and shot as though it will appear in an interior-decorating magazine. the languorous, intimate tone, almost entirely silent throughout, is a bit dull and even soporific, but the rhythms of the sex create their own narrative, and a deferred orgasm is all the sweeter when it arrives.
