the second installment of please make me lesbian #17 (original dvd release: march 2018) again has nothing to do with the first, except that it's in keeping with the vague theme of the title. brooklyn chase and victoria june, who both sport stereotypical pornstar anatomy, play a couple seducing their boss's daughter jessica rex, who affects a more natural look, and is supposed to be wondering if she's a lesbian. i have to give credit to girlfriends for giving work to women like brooklyn and victoria, whose tanned, lean, enhanced bodies are deeply unfashionable (at least for non-superstars) in the current era of porn, but who are still solid performers with a lot to offer in the right conditions.
they stumble through their dialogue pretty poorly (it's girlfriends, the intro contractually has to be hideously awkward and move at a snail's pace), but once they get into the rhythm of the sex, i begin to understand how this scene could have been nominated for an avn award for best all-girl group sex scene earlier this year. (it lost to an admittedly pretty great girlsway scene.) once the clothes come off and the energy levels get up the awkwardness falls away; all three women are solid professionals who know what they're doing, know how to communicate with each other, and know how to express pleasure. brooklyn in particular keeps the premise alive in improvised dialogue which works much better than any of the script ever did. i've said before that threesomes are always awkward, but the premise of this one, a couple seducing a third, has such a solid narrative structure built in that it actually worked this time.
however, the filmmaking certainly didn't deserve the award nomination: the second camera operator wanders into the shot at one point, an error so disqualifying it's hard to believe anyone ever watched the scene with any attention before. there are some decent shots in the thing, but for the most part it's really undistinguished camerawork, dull and mechanical, with little care given to capturing action and very little shot variation. the usual girlfriends m.o., in fact, regardless of who the director is.
i will note that i've reviewed a victoria june scene already this month, but almost didn't notice because her look has changed pretty remarkably between the time that this scene was shot and a month or so back when she did a camshow with sydney cole for cherry pimps. i'd also never noticed her before this month, so you can blame my ignorance for the oversight.
