this is the fifth entry in the we like girls project, one of several original series bree mills is producing for adult time, gamma's attempt to create a netflix-style porn destination with high-quality content, a vast licensed back catalog, and entries in every major porn genre. because it's girl/girl it falls under the girlsway umbrella, but traditional girlsway fans are mostly turning their noses up at it: they want the shitty stories and lame acting, they don't want to see the girls talk to the camera or see behind the scenes as the camera crew and makeup artists get them ready. they want fantasy, and they think that seeing the director interact with the performers kills the fantasy.

so what do i think? i think it's a wonderful series, the only porn i consider appointment viewing (this is the only scene all month i've watched twice, once when it came out, and once when i caught up to it in the schedule), and a triumph on every level. every performer who has appeared in the series is an all-star, the premise of performers handpicking partners they are eager to have sex with (very different from the usual casting method) means that there is guaranteed to be a genuine connection on screen, the handheld camerawork from long-serving craftsmen matt holder and craven moorehead is intimate and involving while still looking beautiful, the white bedroom sets and minimal decor means that there's little to distract from the two performers sharing an experience, editor clit eastwood's judicious documentary style helps shape an engaging narrative both before and during the sex. it's everything i want gonzo girl/girl porn to be, and i love getting to see every moment of the process, from the girls first laying eyes on each other (after having been kept apart in makeup all day on purpose, a bit of benign psychological manipulation that only a female director would have thought of) to the final post-coital photo shoot, when the performers are breathless or giggly or dazed or all three.

because this is the fifth in the series, there's plenty of precedent to compare it to. the first, with angela white and kissa sins, was a hardcore epic: both of them are very intense performers and had no problem pushing each other's limits. the second, with jenna sativa and kristen scott, was much gentler and sweeter, though no less passionate. the third, with scarlett sage and emily willis, was raucous and irrepressible, two close friends showing off what they can do. the fourth (my favorite), with lena paul and ivy lebelle, was two women in a long-term relationship with each other celebrating valentine's day with the ease of long comfort and some light bdsm. and this?

this is two women who have been wanting to work together for going on five years finally getting their hands on each other and wringing every last drop out of the opportunity. both serena blair and cadence lux tend a bit toward the freaky side, which only really showed up here in a quantity of spit play; and (like everyone who's been on we like girls) they know how to put on a show for the cameras, but their primary focus here was simply being together, letting the cameramen worry about how to make it look good. and they're right to.

there are a thousand moments i want to call out as being particularly special. cadence showing up to set with a story to tell about misadventures in lingerie; serena showing up to set with dry romantic wit; both of them playing it cool in the makeup chair but getting adorably excited when they finally see each other; serena pausing just before she goes down on cadence for the first time to reminisce about how long they've waited; cadence losing the entirety of her vocabulary except the word "fuck"; taking a water break and then using it for more spit play; serena failing to open up as cadence is eating her out, giving her chipmunk cheeks with the pressure of her thighs. and more and more. i haven't engraved this scene onto my memory as i have the previous entries yet, partly because so much of my watching time is spent on scenes so much worse than it.

but it's absolutely a worthy entry in the series. i was perhaps slightly disappointed that serena, who i know as being a highly verbal performer, doesn't chatter much here; but on reflection she doesn't need to. there's no flimsy premise to be upheld with her wit, just real passion and genuine fun. i say quite frequently here that i don't really care whether the performers are genuinely experiencing pleasure so long as they perform it adequately, but a scene like this makes it unmistakable that they are genuinely experiencing pleasure; which it turns out isn't a condemnation of most other scenes. genuine pleasure is probably, if not absolutely the norm in girl/girl scenes, at least frequent enough to set your watch by.
