it turns out the old dog of girlsway does still have some new tricks up its sleeve. moms on moms, the spinoff brand of mommy's girl that has been responsible for a tempest in a teapot among the girlsway members (who screamed bloody murder when the monthly mommy's girl count was reduced by one to make room for it) is easy for someone like me who doesn't share the pseudo-incest fetish to dismiss as more of the same, just another a work-relief program for milf-category performers: but at least this pairing, the second ever, brought in a ringer who hasn't been on mommy's girl a thousand times already, and so elevated the standard.
dana vespoli seems more engaged and even to be having more fun than i've seen her in quite some time. maybe the stresses of being sweetheart's primary director for a half-decade have finally been relieved, maybe she's enthused about her new project (terrorxxx.com, not remotely my thing but i wish her all the best with it), maybe it's simply the novelty of being merely a performer after having had to wear multiple hats for so long. regardless, paired with a similarly long-serving performer, she's at her ease, and gives a dryly comedic, smartly verbal performance, lampshading the awkwardness of the standard porn positions they're going through under the guise of instructing katie how they work.
and katie morgan is no slouch: her squeaky voice may give her the affect of an airhead, but she keeps up with dana and then some, playing the more sexually charged of the pair of moms who sneak off during a family playdate to relieve some urges that their husbands haven't been keeping on top of. i don't think i've ever seen this hoary premise worked through as well as dana and katie do it: they do enough shading of character that the performances feel real rather than just a pretense they drop when it's time for sex. the choice they both make throughout the sex to keep their voices down, to maintain the fiction that their husbands and sons are around and might hear them, was very much appreciated.
and the filmmaking was thoroughly adequate: maybe alan was inspired by the new series to put forward some actual effort, or maybe with another (cough, better) director on set he didn't dare cut corners. either way, although we're stuck with the standard gamma three-camera stationary long shot and slow, dull pans from the same angle, the action was well captured and even occasionally looked good. the colorful set helped: and so much red made oversaturation in post a non-starter, so the color balance was decent. the editing was also fine: i especially liked that they left in every time dana laughed at something katie said, which aided the easy, enjoyable feeling of the scene.
