i knew not to expect much from team skeet, because i've browsed through their output before, but this is a whole other level of unpleasant and incompetent.
i'm not sure how much to blame the performers. i've never seen them in anything before, so i don't know what they're capable of under decent direction or with a decent premise. but here, they are respectively a total nonentity (elle) and a profoundly awkward actress (sophia). and unusually, their performance once the sex starts doesn't redeem them. i have no idea whether they were actually enjoying themselves while giving or experiencing pleasure while receiving, but there was, shall we say, room to doubt.
i want to be fair: part of my distaste for sophia's performance is no doubt rooted in class snobbery. her use of aave and casual swearing, as someone who is supposed to be playing a presumably middle-class babysitter, felt not just inappropriate but too real for the scenario. team skeet's dyked sub-brand tends to feature stories where authority figures coerce young women into sex through anger or implied violence, and her simulated anger here was on-brand but totally disproportionate to the situation.
that situation: elle is an eighteen-year-old who still for some reason has a babysitter and won't go to bed on time and takes videos of herself masturbating. all teen-based scenarios are inherently gross, but this one was not just gross but dumb too.
it might still have worked if the filmmaking looked good or interesting: but the camerawork is embarrassingly lazy on every level, the lighting is obscene, and the editing just plain awful. eight solid minutes of elle posing in front of a mirror (and not being done any favors by the camera) before sophia even enters is patience-testing in the extreme.
but hey, elle voneva is asian-american, so that's something.
