the seventh girlsway scene i've reviewed for the month of april, and the third director to be called in as a replacement for stills by alan. craven moorehead has been a gamma contractor for a while now: he's filled in when alan couldn't maintain the onerous schedule throughout 2018, and he's the main director for pure taboo. not that this is shot anything like a pure taboo scene: it's still the pretty standard girlsway setup, but with a better eye and a cooler, less oversaturated color palette.
dee in particular is highly flushed by the end of the scene, but rather than glowing bright red, as she would have under stills by alan's camera, she's just a delicate rose color. the subdued colors are suited to a scene that takes a long time to get up a head of steam. it's fully twenty minutes before the two women touch each other, although they've been masturbating in front of each other for much of that time. emma hix, as a stepdaughter trying to bait her stepmother into masturbating (ostensibly so she can see how it's done, but although she claims otherwise she doesn't behave like someone who's never orgasmed before), plays callow and scheming well, and dee has impressed me a second time as an inventive and throaty dirty-talker.
it's still a bone-stupid premise, and i felt myself cringing throughout much of the setup (there's just no non-awkward way to put forth the suggestion that your stepmother teach you to masturbate, unless it's done in so stylized a fashion that fans will bitch about it being unrealistic), but once the legs were spread both women seemed much more comfortable and the improvised dialogue flowed more naturally. they're both champion sex-havers, and managed to make even the tribbing feel moderately credible.
the technical qualities of the scene were basically fine: one of the introductory vignettes, in the bathroom, was poorly shot (probably because of the excess of natural light and being rushed), and there were some angles on the sex that were as clumsily composed as any stills by alan shot (on a full-body shot, please let the composition breathe instead of framing it so that if the performers move at all they move out of frame), but overall it was much better than i was expecting from a 2019 girlsway, not to mention mommy's girl, scene.
fuck stills by alan, may he never return.
