the hollow laugh i gave out when this five-scene collection popped up on the last monday in the month, the second-to-last day before i will be free of this goddamn project. back deep in the archives now, i expressed surprise and delight at how many wicked scenes i was getting to review, because they were usually so sparing with their girl/girl. two weeks passed with only boy/girl releases, and i felt we were back to normal. then of course axel braun drops a wall-to-wall girl/girl release, as if to taunt me.

wicked is known for their features, but like everyone else they keep the lights on with "all-sex" releases, themed compilations of story-free sex between good-looking performers who are pros enough to either have real chemistry or to fake it well enough that the viewer can't tell. and axel braun's name sells enough copies that putting it on these releases is just good business sense. i have no idea whether he was actually doing the filming (i have heard, shall we say, conflicting reports on the topic), but he gets the credit, and presumably the paycheck, for it.

i knew myself to be in good hands with the first scene: lacy lennon and gina valentina have both impressed me over the course of the month, gina in a story-free scene much like this for girlfriends with whitney wright, and lacy in the best scene all month, directed by whitney. both of them are very good and enjoy their work and know how to communicate that enjoyment well. the sex is great, romantic and gentle, with just enough fury to it to push each other over the edge.

the filmmaking is more classy than it is beautiful: intimate and involving, it's not lit particularly well (most of the shots have them framed against a window, and when the camera moves in for a closeup it has to contend with a lot of shadows) and the chosen angles aren't always the most flattering. but it's still sophisticated filmmaking with high-end equipment and excellent at capturing the action. the editing hand felt a little overbearing: at least twice it felt like the viewer was summarily denied interesting footage rather than the cut being integrated into the action in a softer way.

and that strong editing hand made for a typically terse scene: all killer no filler, like every wicked scene i've encountered, it gets in under half an hour. lacy and gina certainly looked as though they could have kept going (as is their job), but i vastly prefer being left wanting more than wondering when it will be over.
