i've talked at length about my feelings on gonzo already; and if mason at lesbianx produces some of the best gonzo in porn, the mostly uncredited and wildly variable production crews that produce content for spizoo produce some of the most consistently mediocre gonzo.
which is a shame, because i like the ethos behind spizoo a lot: founded by 2000s-era porn legend jessica jaymes, it's closer to a partnership with the performers who use the service to host their content than it is a corporate employer of talent. but not every performer has the best eye for or interest in quality control; so spizoo's output is, as i say, variable.
i know kate kennedy and rocky emerson more by reputation than through having seen much of their work; they seem like perfectly lovely people, and fully engaged in the project of getting each other off. but the lack of any communication apart from volume and pace of moans during sex means that no particular personality comes through for either of them during the scene. they're both experienced enough to know what they're doing, which is why it's so disappointing that so much of the scene feels like rote mid-00s gonzo, running through required positions rather than following any particular passions, only with higher-definition cameras.
there is no particular set-up, although the high-glam introduction, with music and spectacularly-lit close-up shots, was a nice burst of style. it's a shame the scene proper didn't follow maintain that interesting, highly-edited aesthetic: although the photography throughout was mostly fine, with vivid colors and solid shot compositions, the editing, and particularly the sound editing, was all over the map. it sounded as though a boom mike kept cutting out so that they had to use the camera mike instead; but regardless of what the technical issue was, the fluctuation in room tone was jarring.
