i promised i would review trans girl/girl porn as well as cis girl/girl porn, and here we are already
transfixed, gamma's much-ballyhooed premium trans lesbian site, is a triumph of production design as much as casting or direction. i don't include production design in my scoring rubric because so little porn can actually be considered to have any, but every transfixed scene to date has been so focused on a central visual idea that it's tempting to give extra marks on cinematography just because there's so much beautiful imagery to look at.
the central visual idea of this one, a retro neon workout space all in shades of pink, purple and blue, is maybe less compelling or original than previous entries, but it's still so much more visually interesting than most porn, with colorful light bouncing all over their bodies, that i can't complain.
kenzie taylor's continuous flow of dialogue, both scenario-supporting and dirty talk, helps to make up for any lack of originality in the setting. kayleigh coxx, like most of the trans women who have appeared in transfixed, is much more reactive than proactive (mainstream porn's general contempt for trans performers means that they are rarely given the opportunity to stretch their acting muscles, or even to talk, in scenes). that's fine: another thing i like about transfixed is that the cis women are so often cast against type as the aggressors, leading their partner in the dance of sex, while the women with penises get to play the more traditionally feminine passive role. but it does mean kayleigh doesn't get to display much of a personality.
the camerawork is terrific, as is to be expected: handheld cameras instead of stationary ones capturing the action from multiple angles even with the handicap of a giant mirror several feet from the action. the editing is similarly solid: the opening thirty seconds could be taken from a music video. the scenario is pretty flimsy, but kenzie's dialogue goes a long way toward bolstering it.
i doubt i will be reviewing any trans scenes besides transfixed's this month (i don't even know that there are any other companies that regularly produce trans-woman-on-cis-woman porn), but luckily transfixed is jumping from monthly to weekly releases in april, so i'll get to cover a range.
