when i do my data analysis at the end of the month, it may well be the case that the site with the highest average score will be transfixed. this shouldn't be taken as an indication that i prefer trans girl/girl scenes to regular cis girl/girl scenes (what turns me on is not germane to these reviews), but a recognition that transfixed in particular puts much more effort into concept, production value and making every episode uniquely visually interesting than just about any other girl/girl porn site. this scene is the most riveting of the three so far this month, with an eight-minute short-film introduction that could as easily lead into an episode of horror, fantasy, or romance as into a porn scene.
maya kendrick goes shopping at a yard sale (director bree mills and cameraman curious judas make cameos) and buys an old mirror for her new fixer-upper apartment. but once she tears the price tag off, she keeps seeing another woman in the mirror: aspen brooks, who seems just as confused by maya as maya is by her. at last she gathers up the courage to strip down naked before aspen; and then follows her impulse to touch her.
a romantic, extensive sex scene follows. both women are pros and do excellent work in the sex; if they are both relatively quiet and subdued compared to the two previous transfixed scenes (kenzie taylor and sarah vandella are all-time champion dirty talkers), it fits with the dreamlike flow of the narrative, as well as seeming to match their performance styles.
the basic bedroom set, with its light colors and plentiful light sources, was a beautiful backdrop, and even the simple visual contrast between maya's pallor and aspen's tan helped to keep the scene visually stimulating throughout. the camerawork was once more exceptional, and the editing was fantastic, seamlessly weaving in the "impossible" shots of the two of them facing each other in the mirror. it's an outstanding scene, the second-highest score i've given out all month and a kind of standard toward which more porn should aspire.
i loved the little notes of character work that maya introduced in the opening, from the phone call with her mother to anxiously picking at her bangles, and the intimate shooting style that made her little apartment feel like a real space instead of a sterile porn location. if aspen was more of a cipher by contrast, that's also part of the dreamlike narrative, although it's also not the first time on transfixed that the cis woman has played a more fully fleshed-out character than the trans woman.
