serene siren and carolina sweets in “women seeking women #152”

the second b. skow-directed girlfriends release i've watched every installment of this month, and possibly the best scene i've gotten from him (and from the studio) all month. none, or almost none, of that is due to his work: most of it is due to serene siren and to a lesser extent carolina sweets.
it's worth taking a moment to look back on the entirety of women seeking women #152, which (like many or even most girlfriends releases is really two entirely different stories told across two scenes each, packaged together for no particular reason other than that dvd sales are the only thing the company really understands). the first half, with ella knox and jenna foxx as the employees of elexis monroe and ryan keely, started strong but went nowhere; the second half, with eva long and serene siren perving over carolina sweets, started unpromisingly but ended rather sweetly. at the end of this scene, eva long returns to tie a bow on the two-part scene, the first time i've seen that happen with a girlfriends release.
it's still nowhere near a first-rank scene overall: the camera work is too shoddy, the storytelling too bone-stupid, the performances too stilted, the pacing too tedious, for that. serene does her best with the material, but the material is fundamentally awful, and carolina seems to be a sweet girl but is nowhere near her level as an improvisatory actor. the pre-sex intro is a mass of writhing discomfort for the viewer; when the sex starts it's a lot better, but serene still easily outshines her partner in terms of carrying narrative momentum and keeping the fantasy alive. when she shot this scene early last year she was still a relative novice compared to other champion dirty talkers i've noted this month (sarah vandella, kenzie reeves, bridgette b), but she's getting to that level.
the couch setting for the sex was again a change from the traditional girlfriends scene, which has always focused on beds, and included plenty of absurd porn positions, but unlike the jenna/ryan scene on a couch, it didn't lend itself well to filming. the contortions the performers went through to hold odd positions while making their action visible distracted a bit from the performance of pleasure. not that they didn't seem to enjoy themselves; they certainly did. i just wish the filmmaking could have let me enter into the spirit of the thing more.
