meanwhile, reality kings keeps right on trucking along with another entry in the welivetogether brand. this time up: cecilia lion and skyler nicole as volleyball players fighting over who gets to keep the ball as a trophy for their big win. it's a feather-slight pretext for a scene, and skyler slamming cecilia up against the lockers after she yanks the ball out of her hands one too many times would, in any genre but porn, be the beginning of an actual fight. but instead they both smirk, and skyler drops to her knees.
if it was just sex from then on, it would be a dreadfully boring scene; but whether it was in the script or not (i tend to think it was, since mindgeek productions have a reputation for being micromanaged by corporate), they introduce a competitive element to the sex, declaring that whoever orgasms first will be the loser, and the winner gets to take home the ball. i won't spoil the ending, but i was sort of pleasantly surprised to see that there was an actual winner, who walks away without having come. which is possibly the rarest outcome in girl/girl, which as a genre is obsessed with the performance of multiple orgasms, generally one per position (and ideally an equal number between the partners), over the course of a scene. but cecilia and skyler changed positions too often for that, as they mock-fought for dominance and control of the other's pleasure, and so while it still ended up slightly tedious (a single idea repeated over the course of forty-five minutes of sex wears thin no matter how good the performances are), it was at least a different approach.
the technical qualities of the production were mostly only adequate: the set is colorful but never looks like anything but a set, the camera work was frequently off-kilter and occasionally out of focus, although the colors were rich enough that whenever it went in for a close-up it startled me with its beauty. at last, a porn production that adequately lights a dark-skinned black woman, even if it is over-bright sitcom lighting. and i'll note here how rare and wonderful it is to see not just one black woman, but two, for a site that isn't zebra girls. all apologies to cecilia, who i believe would prefer that race never be mentioned.
