and with this, at long last, this blog bids goodbye to girlfriends films. not farewell, because i now resent the company enough to wish no good to them, but goodbye. happy to see the back of it. never looking back. they can make the most spectacular performers look dull and the most creative stories interminable. it's really a special kind of alchemy, a formula that if it could be reverse-engineered to find the antidote could be used to save thousands of porn productions a year from awkwardness, stupidity, and visual blah.

anyway, eventually scarlett agrees to let xandra sleep in her room, because the hotel's booked up. cut to xandra in bed (a bed anyone who's glanced at girlsway has seen a million times), shocked that scarlett expects to share it with her. scarlett begins to flirt with her, and issues a veiled threat: reciprocate, or she'll kick xandra out to sleep in her car, where she'll undoubtedly be mugged or worse. xandra agrees to scarlett's caresses, and the sex begins.
the sex is fine, even very good. scarlett sage is an all-star, and was back when this was made last year too. in fact once the stupid script goes away scarlett's performance stops being stiff and becomes genuinely engaging and intense as she guides xandra through her first lesbian sex. in all the thousands of porn scenes i've watched, i don't think i've ever seen one where the supposed inexperience of one participant continues as a narrative thread throughout the entirety of the sex, and that it does here is entirely scarlett's doing. there's long, naturalistic foreplay as well, which though shot atrociously is always nice to see.
the muddy colors, poor sound design, awkward camerawork, tedious pacing, and bone-stupid script do not deviate from girlfriends' usual standard. i am of an age where simply knowing that the performers are enjoying themselves and experiencing sexual pleasure is not enough for me: i want it to look beautiful, or at least arresting. i want to be immersed in the world of the scene, to feel something visceral. i want to be surprised. girlfriends offers none of that, and given the bile i've poured on them all month it's maybe even more indicative of their mediocrity that they're not even remotely the lowest-scoring company on my tally sheet: of the sites with multiple scenes, team skeet, spizoo, 21sextury, mylf, sapphic erotica, abby winters, and female fake taxi all collected lower averages. for the most part, that's because i don't really blame the performers in girlfriends scenes for how bad they are; i generally know and like the women they hire, and once the sex begins they're all so good at their job that i have to blame the stage-managed portion of the scene on the stage managers.
i have seen various performers say that girlfriends shooting days are often their favorites, that they really like working for the company and feel respected and treated well by them. given how frequently performers return to shoot for them again and again, i have no reason to doubt that they are exceptionally good to work for. i just wish any of that enjoyment and positive feeling made its way into the cameras.
